Dagonyths are the Marithian Kingdom’s quiet concession—maidens offered to Dagon, the masculine origin their carefully ordered society denies, that they might be left undisturbed.

Cast into the deepest reaches of the sea, they grow far below their kin, where light and law do not follow. There, they attend to the Deep Father—adoring, placating, preserving a fragile peace so that Marithia above remains untouched.

For a long while, this was enough.

But something within the depths has begun to turn.

Among the Dagonyths, a restlessness spreads—subtle at first, then insistent. Where once they were content to remain below, some now ascend. They move among the Marithians, speaking not of appeasement, but of origin—of Dagon not as a force to be contained, but as a truth to be embraced.

The kingdom is unprepared.

The wider Marithian populace knows nothing of these offerings; the Nixie elite have long buried that truth beneath ritual and design. Yet the Dagonyths return in growing numbers, carrying something difficult to name. Their words linger. Their presence persuades. What they awaken in others does not fade easily.

Dagon himself offers no clarity. He neither calls them upward nor restrains them. If anything, he remains as he always has—vast, distant, and unmoved. Whether this change pleases him, or simply fails to concern him, cannot be known.

Which leaves the Nixie with a more troubling thought:

The Dagonyths no longer feel like something being sent.

They feel like something being returned.

And whatever stirs behind their rising does not announce itself—only guides, patiently, through borrowed voices and willing forms.
